Light adds drama

SO if you just take a shot...no flash, no extra light, it's harder to focus...as is obvious. I do like the natural, faded look though. It could easily be made more transparent to lay text over the top or to layer images.

The is something alluring, though, about what can be done with light. A simple exercise...just the addition of a light on the central objects of the shot adds shadows and heightens the sense of colors and importance. Just an extra level of interest, I think.
