Light adds drama
SO if you just take a shot...no flash, no extra light, it's harder to focus...as is obvious. I do like the natural, faded look though. It could easily be made more transparent to lay text over the top or to layer images.
The is something alluring, though, about what can be done with light. A simple exercise...just the addition of a light on the central objects of the shot adds shadows and heightens the sense of colors and importance. Just an extra level of interest, I think.

Color Temperature
DVDs at 6800 (approximately the outdoor light temp)
I think the higher temp helps to emphasize the leading lines and the rich color of the shelves, but leaves the DVDs as the secondary object whereas the more true-temperature of the second shot lets the eye focus on the DVDs first. Perhaps some layermasking to combine could help this photo. I might try that, but for now--it just depends on the focus...so I'd have to go with the 3600 shot. It is called "DVDs at 3600."

"Rubber Ducky: You're the one"
Why is this stuff still on the counter? I have no idea. Why do we have a rubber duck? Another blank one on my end...but it makes for an interesting photo. After checking out the shots from yesterday, I realized that the angle blocked almost all of the duck and left too much in focus, so i tried to change the angle a little bit and to have the surrounding objects bleed out of the frame and out of focus. While there are still background objects that could be distracting, the fact that they are blurred still allows the viewer to see the biggest, boldest, brightest, most in-focus object in that rare little creature...rubber ducky.

Aperture/SS games
...just working on balancing the aperture and shutter speed to get the best exposure.
of course...these same 4 images could probably have been achieved with one of the RAW images I shot and a little bit of playing with the exposure in photoshop. It feels like more is accomplished by getting it right by adjusting the camera settings...that IS the point of learning digital, right?

Again...photographing other people as they photograph...I really like how this picture tells the story of what she is photographing without seeing the actual object. As Matt and I discussed, though, perhaps it should be cropped from the right a bit so that Mo wasn't so centered in the frame (common rookie mistake--I'll work on it!) The light from the sunset was so cool I had to catch it in a less head-on way.
